Bury’s Recovery Hub – The ORB

The ORB is launched – One Recovery Bury’s pioneering recovery centre for those recovering from substance addictions.

One Recovery is Bury’s innovative drug and alcohol service, offering help and support to those with substance misuse problems.  By offering a non-judgemental and inspiring service we aim to treat an individual’s primary addiction, as well as supporting the wider aspects of their life and help them recover from the grips of addiction.

Substance addiction controls lives; however, this can change.  With determination and hard work addictions can be overcome and individuals can move forward in their lives.  An important part of achieving recovery is to support others and work together to contribute to communities again.

At One Recovery Bury we believe recovering from substance misuse is much easier when you have people you can lean on for encouragement, support and guidance; to help achieve this we have developed our innovative recovery hub, The ORB.

The ORB is designed to ensure individuals achieve their personal goals and a recovery that is suited to them, whether this is securing employment, volunteering, re-building family relationships and contributing to the community again.  A number of different activities and groups will be held every day at The Orb, fostering a cohesive atmosphere where people can work together.

Last week saw the official launch of The ORB, with an opportunity for invited guests to have a look around the centre and see the transformative work that will be achieved.  The day was organised by students of ‘Bridging the Gap’, ADS’ innovative pre-employment programme that will be run from the centre, and service users and staff from One Recovery Bury, and guests included, Councillor Andrea Simpson, Chair of Bury Health & Wellbeing Board and Pat Greenhalgh Jones, Bury Council Executive Director of Communities & Wellbeing, amongst others.

Describing the service, ADS Chief Executive Lady Rhona Bradley, said:

“The ORB is a fantastic asset to the community of Bury, One Recovery Bury is a pioneering partnership that has come together in challenging times to provide a cost effective integrated drug and alcohol treatment service for the people of Bury.

ADS has a long history of providing first rate care for our clients, in Bury and further afield; alcohol and drug abuse has significant impact on health and wellbeing and wider detriments to society – we are committed to providing a service that places the client at the centre of what we deliver and promotes change in Bury.”

ADS Service Delivery Director, Pam Lievesley, said:

“Recovery means different things to different people, but this building will help people realise their goals and achieve a recovery that is suited to them.  We are already hearing recovery stories which are transforming this building and developing recovery communities across the whole of Bury, Radcliffe and Ramsbottom amongst others.”

The ORB launched last week to coincide with ‘UK Recovery Month’.  One Recovery Bury and The ORB will be holding a number of events throughout the month to honour recovery and spread the word that when we work collectively we can achieve recovery.

There will be a community fun day on Saturday 19th September to give back to the community and celebrate recovery, including a ‘Big Balloon Release’, so make sure you keep a lookout for the purple balloons over Bury at 3.30pm.

There will also be various activities to showcase recovery in the community across the coming months.
