The Oldham Chronicle Covers Addiction to prescription drugs

This week saw the Oldham Chronicle cover addiction to prescription drugs, focussing on the British Medical Association’s (BMA) call for action and more support for patients.  The BMA produced three recommendations on the issue:

–          A 24hr helpline for those suffering from dependence on their prescribed medication

–          Resourced specialist support services for those with prescribed drug dependence

–          Clear guidance on tapering and withdrawal management should be developed

ADS welcomes the BMA’s recommendations; it is important that those in the medical profession, and organisations the size and influence of the BMA recognise the scale of the issue and advocate for support to be available to patients.
